BUILDING MATERIALS (BLD 60103)

This module have introduced the various types of building materials used in current construction practice and form an understanding of the choices designers make in choosing building materials based on the properties of these materials.

PROJECT 1: SPACE OUT THE MATERIAL CUBE

This is the first project of building materials in this semester. I have learnt to manage the time via this assignment. Meanwhile i also improved my thinking and problem solving skills. From this project, i have learnt to use different type of materials to design a cube. Moreover, i also learnt to think creatively and critically to define the space of the cube. By doing this projects, I also learnt to recognize how the limitations and boundaries of a material factor in a design process. Other than that, this project enabled me to express a material within its contextual application.

PROJECT 1: MATERIALITY OF SPACE: AN EXPERIENTIAL EXPLORATION

This project consists of two parts. The first part is about the introduction of the selected building and reason for selecting the space whereas the second part is about the experiential analysis of the material and space.

PROJECT 2A

From this project, I found that teamwork is important. I have learnt to communicate well with my groupmates via this assignment. At the same time, i also understood the team dynamics and mobilise the power of teams. Other than that,I have improved my knowledges by understanding the physical and chemical properties of the building materials being used in existing. Moreover, I have learnt to identify various types of building material. I have also known more about the appropriateness of material used in context several factors occupancy, concept, climate.

I have learnt to understand the effects of building materials on aesthetics and structural qualities of a space or building through this assignment. Meanwhile this project also enhance my knowledge in understanding of application and installation of materials as finish and structural materials. Other than improve my knowlegde, i have also learnt to acquire analytical skill in understanding selection of building materials for a design. In addition, I found that i have learnt to manage my time in doing this assignment. Besides, i also can apply all the things that i learnt in this assignment on my design.
