BUILDING SERVICE (BLD 60903)
This subject introduced the services that are commonly provided in a building; primarily cold and hot water supply, sewerage disposal and treatment, drainage and storm water management, electrical supply, fire protection systems, mechanical ventilation and air-conditioning systems and mechanical transportation systems. At the same time, it also provides the knowledge which related to the basic requirements, planning, coordination and installation of these services besides the regulations especially the ones related to Uniform Building By-Law (UBBL).
PROJECT 1: APPLICATION OF BUILDING SERVICES
This project is to design the systems required in a Retreat House that I have designed earlier on in semester two. Few systems are applied into the Retreat House such as electrical supply system, cold water and hot water supply system, sewerage and sanitary system and drainage system.
Through this project, I am able to identify relevant information related to water supply, liquid waste disposal, mechanical air-conditioning, fire safety and vertical transportation system. At the same time, I also have improved my knowledge in the planning and installation of building services within the total design and construction process.
Follwings are the final boards of these four systems.
PROJECT 2: CASE STUDY AND DOCUMENTATION OF BUILDING SERVICES SYSTEM
This is a group assignment in which me and friends were required to analyse a building of 5-storey in relation to its building service systems. We were asked to analyse four service systems including mechanical ventilation, air-conditioning system, active and passive fire protection system and mechanical transportation system.
We have chosen Cheras Leisure Mall for our building analysis. We begin our analysis by gather some basic information from the management staffs. we also went around the building for inspection and documentation. During the visit, we were able to identify the appliances and equipment of four systems such as cooling tower, kitchen exhaust, water tank, AHU, lift and others.
Through this assignment, we have learnt to identify and understand relevant information related to mechanical ventilation, air-conditioning, and mechanical transportation system as well as fire protection systems. Other than that, we also able to understand how service systems work for the building and space implications and regulations related to different building services.
