PROJECT 2: UNDERSTANDING FORCES IN SOLID STRUCTURE AND SURFACE STRUCTURE
This project assigned us to follow the group of project 1 and choose a building which consists of solid, skeletan and surface structure for analysing their construction detail. My group has selected Lotus Temple which located at India as our building for analysing. Other than just analysing the construction detail of Lotus Temple, we are also required to show the construction detail by doing model.
Due to Lotus Temple is made up of reinforced white concrete and cladding with marble panels. Thus, we decided to use grey board and modelling board as our model's material. Surface shell structure and skeleton structure can be found in Lotus Temple. Surface shell structure will be the outlook of Lotus Temple whereas the skeleton structure can be found at the internal dome of Lotus Temple. Therefore, our model will show the construction detail of the surface shell structure and the skeleton structure.
Through this project, I have learnt to develop an understanding of the structural systems in construction and its application in the building industry and apply knowledge of load and forces in analyzing structural possibilities in the structural systems as part of the construction process. Followings are the photo of construction detail model and report of Lotus Temple.
















































Other than just doing the model and report of Lotus Temple, this project also requires us to do our own individual work. Each of us has to choose one part of the building and doing the analysis of construction detail. I have chosen the detail of central hub and ribs which are found at internal dome for analysing.
