PROJECT 2A: SITE CONDITION & ANALYSIS AND BIRD TOWER

Me and my batch mates had a short trip to Fraser’s Hill to undertake a site analysis of Fraser’s Hill. We were divided into two groups, which were The Allan’s Water group and Paddock group.  I was assigned to The Paddock group.  Through this trip, we hace gathered many information related to the site such as orientation and climate, site topography, access and circulation, existing Structure and building materials of the surrounding site, vegetation and hydrology, views and vistas, historical and cultural and SWOT.

SITE CONDITION & ANALYSIS AT FRASER HILL

In groups (combination of 2 tutorial groups from Project 1), we were asked to conduct site analysis of the physical context, social, cultural and/or historical issues within the overall site. Data collected include:

  • Orientation (sun path) and Climate (rainfall & temperature)

  • Site topography / contours

  • Access and Circulation

  • Existing Structure and Materiality of the site surrounding

  • Vegetation and Hydrology

  • Views and Vistas

BIRD TOWER AT FRASER HILL

From this assignment, I have learnt to generate structure, form and space through architectural conceptualisation, with the emphasis on the user requirement, ergonomics and site responding to develop an architectural proposition.  At the same time, I also enhanced my drawing skill and making model skill through this project.  Other than that, I learnt to communicate well with my groupmate although this project is done by two of us.  We exchanged our opinions and divided the work probably to each other so that we can complete the work on time.  Moreover, I also learnt to think critically and creatively via this assignment.
